A particularly nasty series of crimes is casting a pall over the members of CID and an unusually white Dover in the run up to Christmas on the south coast of England.

The festive period is further marred by the report of a pair of suspicious sudden deaths on the frozen outskirts of the town.

Detective Inspector Romney and his loyal team are dealing with evil on all fronts and against a ticking calendar.

The Romney and Marsh Files now number seven. They don’t have to be read in order; they do all work as stand-alone novels. However, to get the most out of each it is recommended that they are consumed in the order in which they were prepared, a bit like the courses of a good meal. (Who wants to eat ice-cream before a bowl of soup?)

Here are the books of the series in order

#1 Rope Enough
#2 Making a Killing
#3 Joint Enterprise
#4 A Dog’s Life
#5 Particular Stupidities
#6 Unhappy Families
#7 A White-Knuckle Christmas

A WhiteKnuckle Christmas The Romney and Marsh Files Book 7 edition by Oliver Tidy Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Both Romney and Marsh have developed into very interesting and well-rounded characters. Their relationship, both professional and personal, has grown as one would expect with real people in real situations. As a result, I found this to be the most satisfying of the series. The cases that come their way in this countdown to Christmas are both complex and unusual; acid is being thrown in citizens' faces for no apparent reason. With no tie to one another, the crime seems random, and therefore, more difficult to solve. The second, concurrent crime, involves a supposed robbery gone wrong, and three deaths. Both cases have some twists and turns to keep the reader interested. While the setting is near Christmas, and we get a glimpse of a very snowy season in Dover, it is not really a Christmas story. No need to put off reading it until the season arrives.... This may be a series finale, and if so, I'll miss these characters that I've come to enjoy very much. Romney, especially, is a very interesting fellow; I'd like to meet him!

A WhiteKnuckle Christmas The Romney and Marsh Files Book 7 edition by Oliver Tidy Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I have enjoyed every book in this series. I really like the writing and enjoy the character development and the locale descriptions. It's fun to read of a "hero" who has such a number of flaws. There is a nice blend of humor, tho a lot of the time I am laughing at Romney. I am planning to read everything Oliver Tidy writes.
I loved reading this series. Just so enjoyable that I hate to put the books down. The characters all come alive. I hope we see more of Romney & Marsh!
nice
Romney and Marsh tackle two unrelated but concurrent crime sequences in this entertaining and deftly crafted narrative. It certainly is not a "cozy" mystery by any means, but the bitter cold, gray backdrop of southeast England in December adds to the aura, somehow underlining the sinister nature of the crimes and the urgency to solve them. Romney has a TV interview that ends in a rare note of hilarity but also emphasizes the passion he feels about his work. In my amateur judgment this book appears to have many, many components of a fine screenplay, one that I would love to see acted out.
The latest in the Romney and Marsh series. and the best! The characters are now mature and come with baggage which adds to the unfolding story. The story itself is well plotted with numerous twists and turns. I should say stories - there are two occurring simultaneously. Each is resolved perfectly........eventually! I highly recommend the series and look forward to the next story eagerly.
One of the most enjoyable books I've read in years. Horrible crimes but at times I laughed out loud. My dog thought I was going crazy. The detectives were well done, believable, and not an evil cop in the bunch. I noticed only one error that should have been caught by proofreading, a "let" that was meant to be "left", At least, "left" made more sense.

This was the first Oliver Tidy books I've read but I suspect it's not the last.
I love this author!!! After reading "Rope Enough", I decided to give myself a big Christmas gift and bought the entire Romney and Marsh series. This is turning out to be one of my best ever presents to myself. If you like mysteries with humor and characters that you know and like, you'll love this series. I loved "A White-Knuckle Christmas" but I did think there might have been a history between past cases and characters that I was missing. It certainly didn't interfere with the plot and my enjoyment of the book. .I just can't say enough good things about these books and the author. I also like J M Gregson's books. I wish more people who fall in love with an author, like I have with Oliver Tidy, would tell us about other authors too because we are voracious readers and our favorite authors can only write so many books in the time we can read their works.
